Why a New Church In Bowling Green?

Many people will wonder why we are planting a church in downtown Bowling Green. Are we saying that there are no good churches in Bowling Green? Do we have a better understanding of what people want than others? Or do we think that we can do church better than everyone else? The answer to all of these questions is "No." So what are the reasons? Why downtown? Why Bowling Green? Why now?

First of all, we desire Kingdom building. Our greatest concern is the Kingdom of Christ. We are not seeking to build up ourselves, but the Kingdom of our Lord. Our desire is the same as many other churches in the area – to see the lost come to faith in Christ. There is a significant population of Bowling Green that is without a saving knowledge of Jesus. They are in desperate need of the gospel. We are not competing with other churches, but instead joining the ranks of the many faithful
congregations spreading the good news of Jesus Christ throughout Bowling Green.

Secondly, we desire a growing church. We want to build a community of people not brought together by race, age, sex, hobbies, economic level, but people united in their commitment to Jesus Christ. We want to see the church living gospel centered lives at home, in the work place, and in the community. There is also a large population of un-churched Christians in our city. We believe strongly that believers must be committed to and embraced by a local congregation in order to
grow in the Lord. We desire to be a church for these people.

Lastly, we desire the ministry of compassion. Our desire is for the church to be the hands and feet of Christ, reaching out to those who are hungry and poor, embracing those who need love and compassion, and giving counsel to those who need wisdom. This area of Bowling Green posses great needs. Forty four percent of the population is below the poverty rate. Fifty five percent of the population over twenty-five does not have a high school diploma. And over fifty percent of the
population is unemployed. Our desire through mercy ministries is to gain an avenue by which we can point people to their greatest need – the gospel of Jesus Christ.
