- Series: Walls, and How the Gospel Brings Them Down
These are the questions that go with the sermon from James 2:1-7 that was preached on April 25th. Click the notes tab to the left to download a pdf of the questions.
1. How did this Sermon convict, encourage, or challenge you?
2. What does James mean when he says in verse 5, “has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him.” Does this mean that wealth is evil and that their will not be anyone wealthy in heaven? Use Scripture to support your answers.
3. In James 2:12 he says, “So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty.” What does this mean to you as a believer? How can this attitude help you fight against the favoritism you display in your own life?
4. Why does James say that partiality is incompatible with faith? Consider the following parables in Matthew 20:13-16 and Matthew 22:9-10. (Also consider: Leviticus 19:15, Deut. 10:17; 15:7-10; Job 34:19; Proverbs 24:23; Acts 10:34-35; Romans 2:11; Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 6:9; 1 Peter 1:17)
5. Numerous passages in Scripture call on believers to show compassion to the poor. What are two or three concrete ways you can obey this command this week? How specifically can you avoid showing partiality this week in your home? In the workplace? In the neighborhood? At church? What are some ways of labeling others that you need to refrain form using immediately?
