These questions go with the sermon from Mark 14:1-9 that was preached on Febraury, 14th. Click the notes tab to the left to download a pdf of the questions.

1. How did this sermon convict, encourage, or challenge you?

2. In verse 3, we see that Mary prepared to worship Jesus. What are some practical ways that you can prepare for corporate and private worship? What does preparing for worship accomplish?

3. Mary’s worship of Jesus was costly in many ways. It cost her the security that was provided by possessing such expensive oil. It cost her potential future plans as well. Yet Mary saw the worship of her Lord as more valuable than material possessions and future aspirations. What heart issues can keep us from costly worship?(Consider Mark 8:36, Matthew 6:19-23).

4. Mary had the option of using a small amount of perfume to have anointed Jesus with. Instead she broke the jar and used it all to show her devotion to her Lord. Jesus loves a cheerful giver, not a careful one. What do Mary’s actions reveal to us about her love for her Lord?

5. In spite of the criticism brought by some of those reclining at the table that saw Mary’s worship as too extravagant and even wasteful, Jesus took to her defense by describing what she had done to him as “beautiful.” Why was she commended for such an act? Would it not have been more beneficial to have sold the perfume and used the money to provide for the poor? What would have been your reaction had you been sitting at the table?
