  • Series: A King and His Cross

These questions go with the sermon from Mark 15:33-47 preached on March 28th. Click the notes tab to the left to down load a pdf of the questions.

1. How did this sermon convict, encourage, or challenge you?

2. From the cross Jesus cried out, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" Why did Jesus say this and what does this experience teach us a believers when we feel "forsaken"? (Psalm 42:11, Isaiah 50:10).

3. The curtain torn in two from top to bottom symbolized many important truths. How would you explain these symbolic truths to an unbelieving friend who had read this passage?

4. In verse 44, Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus should have already died. Why was he surprised and does this tell us anything about the nature of Jesus' death?

5. Hebrews 9:28 tells us that "Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many." When Christ ushered in the New Covenant, there was no longer a need to atone for our sins by offering the blood of animals as a sacrifice. Christ's death was a sufficient payment for the sins of any man who would repent and believe. If Christ;s death atones for our sins - past, present, and future - then what role does repentance play in our life? Is it even necessary to ask for forgiveness when we have sinned? Why or why not?
